Downtown

Nestled right on the main bend of the Missouri River is Sioux City’s main business district, what we call Downtown. Originally platted as Sioux City East Addition by Dr. Cook, this area quickly became the center of commerce and development in the city. Some of the city’s oldest and most iconic landmarks are here in Downtown, like the castle-shaped old Sioux City Central High and the blocks on Historic Fourth Street. It also serves as home to some of the city’s biggest entertainment venues, including the Orpheum Theatre and the Tyson Event Center, as well as the official city and county services, like the Woodbury County Courthouse and the Police Station. If there is something big happening in Sioux City, it is probably somewhere in Downtown.
